Zionists insists that Jews have a right to Palestine on the following grounds:
Biblical claims.
Although most religious Jews were opposed to Zionism – many on the theological grounds that it is sinful for Jews to have their own State, until the time of the Messiah – the establishment of the Israeli State is justified on Biblical (Old Testament) writings.
First of all, the historic accuracy of the bible is disputed by archaeologists, and it contains many ethical contradictions. The Old Testament says God instructed the Israelites to kill its enemies, including all their offspring, whereas in the New Testament the word of God is to forgive your enemies and turn the other cheek.
The Bible teaches that God made a Covenant with Abraham promising his descendants a great nation, the land of Canaan. (Gen 17:8). But it also teaches that this covenant was conditional that God’s commandments were obeyed (Deuteronomy 7:12). But both Israel and Judea repeatedly broke the Covenant with sin and idolatry (Jeremiah 11:10)
Palestine is the historic homeland of the Jews.
Jews have maintained a continuous presence there for more than 3000 years, but so have many other peoples, and the Jewish population in Palestine was only 1.7% in 1517, 3.8% from 1850 to 1900, 11% in 1918, and 32% in 194S when Israel declared itself as an independent state.
Jericho was founded 9,000 BC, i.e. 6000 years before Abraham, who came from Ur in modern day Iraq. Prior to the arrival of the Israelites, the land was called Canaan. It was populated by numerous different peoples long before the Jewish people came into existence. The united kingdom of Israel has a short history. It came into being in 1020 BC, before it split into 2 kingdoms, as shown in the following figures:
United Kingdom of Israel 1021 BC to 921 BC (100 years)
Kingdom of Israel 853BC to 720 BC (133 years)
Kingdom of Judah 1010 BC to 586 BC (424 years)
Since when is it legitimate to claim a land for eternity because there was a kingdom which existed 2,500 years ago and lasted less than 500 years?
Throughout history, Palestine has been ruled by numerous groups, including the Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians, Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Fatimids, Seljuk Turks, Crusaders, and Mamelukes. Palestinians are descendants from Canaanites, and Israelites who converted to Christianity, and have maintained their presence ever since.
Jews have a right to national self-determination in their own land.
But it is not their land. When Israel was established as a State in 1948, the Jewish population (mostly immigrants) comprised only 32% of the population, and owned only 7% of the land.
Besides, do they have the right of self determination if it at the expense of the indigenous Palestinian population? Do they have that right if Jews are defined by religion, rather than race? Do the Palestinians not have the right to self-determination?
Palestine never existed. They have Palestinians never had a separate culture from other Arab countries. Palestinians are ethnically Arab, so they should leave their homes and live in other Arab countries.
But ethnicity is not the same as nationality. Palestinians have the right to live where they have lived and owned land for generations.
Palestine appeared in the 5th Century BC by Greek historian, Herodotus.
There are maps identifying Palestine, going back thousands of years, There are Palestinian Birth Certificates, Palestinian coins and Palestinian stamps.
Israel is the only safe haven for Jews.
Firstly, Jews and Muslims have lived in peace and harmony together in Arab countries for centuries. The Zionist massacres of Palestinians and theft of their land was the main cause of disharmony. Even after the State of Israel was established, Jews lived peacefully in Arab countries and many held had prominent positions. It was Zionists who committed red flag atrocities in Iraq and Egypt against the Jewish population in order to frighten them to emigrate to Israel that created the tensions. It is the criminal treatment the State of Israel which is causing anti-Semitism throughout the world. Today Jews are prospering throughout the Western world, as reflected in their wealth, their careers and their influence. Jews are less safe in Israel and its occupied territories than it is in Western countries.
